Roots to Food - Szechuan Chicken Recipe
Mon 20 Jan 2025Pupils were in full restaurant mode this week as they were joined by chef Darren from Roots to Food. Drawing together their science learning and a focused healthy eating week, pupils from year 2 to 6 donned their aprons and chef hats as they prepared their own Chinese rice dish. Polishing their cutting, marinating and searing skills, the children learnt how to create their own healthy meal working in small teams. The corridors
were filled with the mouth watering smells of chicken, soy sauce and chinese spices as each group took their turn to cook and most importantly taste their vegetable filled chinese dish. Smiles were a plenty as both children and teachers tucked in.

True Tales From the Treetops in Year 6
Mon 13 Jan 2025During that same week, Year 6 welcomed Simon Ward, an explorer from 'The Explorer Academy,' as part of their 'Tales from the Treetops' topic. From the very first moment, Simon captivated the children with photos and videos from his awe-inspiring expeditions to rainforests around the globe. Engulfed in a vibrant rainforest setting, Year 6 spent the morning investigating the locations of the world's rainforests, their tropical climates, the various layers of the rainforest, and the astounding diversity of plant life that thrives there. A particularly memorable moment was when Simon shared his drone footage, showcasing the four distinct layers of the rainforest and the diverse array of plants and animals inhabiting each one. The Explorer Workshop was a remarkable opportunity to bring the treetops topic to life in an engaging and dynamic way.

Stepping Through the Wardrobe: A Magical Narnia Adventure
Fri 10 Jan 2025On Friday, 10th January 2025, Leopard Class stepped through the wardrobe and into the magical land of Narnia! With the wintry classroom mirroring the winter wonderland, the children embraced an immersive day of drama, creativity, and problem-solving.
Their mission? To break the White Witch's icy spell and restore spring to Narnia. Armed with a magical map, they embarked on exciting quests, from dramatic freeze-frame scenes to resisting the tempting Turkish delight. Winter woollies kept them warm as they ventured through the enchanted world, culminating in a delightful tea party hosted by Mr. Tumnus himself!
With teamwork and determination, the children successfully completed all the challenges. To their delight, the first signs of spring began to bloom in Narnia. It was a truly magical day, filled with the 'wow' factor, leaving the children inspired and full of wonder.

The Nutcracker's Tale - Re-imagined
Fri 13 Dec 2024Our wonderful Arts ambassadors, accompanied by Miss Green and Mrs Dawes, decorated a tree today at our local church, St. John the Baptist. Our tree, adorned with Nutcracker-themed ornaments, will join many others as part of their Christmas Tree Festival from Wednesday onwards.

Colsterworth has the Eco Wow Factor!
Fri 13 Dec 2024The Eco Warriors have received their third Eco award. It was an amazing year for, not only the eco team but all the children and staff, to put our school, local and wider environment at the forefront. Our Green Flag is displayed with pride on our Eco Board and this year it will be joined by a Green Flag plaque.
The Green Flag campaign is a nationwide campaign which allows schools to to showcase their environmental work both within the curriculum and beyond. Once schools apply they may be awarded a Green Flag or a Green Flag with Merit or Distinction. The team reading our application wrote:
Congratulations!!! Your school has truly gone above and beyond to make environmental education engaging for young people. Environmental education in your school is practical and engaging, empowering young people with the knowledge they need to confidently discuss and address ecological issues. It has been an absolute joy assessing your application and learning about the impact you’ve had, not only on our planet but also on the young people you work with every day. We can’t emphasize this enough—take great pride in your achievements, and congratulations on your Eco-Schools’ Green Flag with Distinction 2024!

Reading Wins!
Wed 11 Dec 2024Over the summer holidays, Lincolnshire library services ran a reading challenge to inspire young people to read more. Anyone who completed the challenge of reading six books in six weeks was entered into a prize draw.
Primrose in Year 3 read over 20 books during her summer break, visiting the library every week and was lucky enough to be pulled out of the hat as the winner. She received a £10 book token voucher to buy more books to continue her reading journey.

Artists Win Card Competition
Wed 11 Dec 2024One of the Golden Time activities this term focused on sketching, designing, and creating Christmas cards, and it was a resounding success! The children approached the challenge with great enthusiasm, demonstrating incredible commitment and artistic flair throughout the process. Each design captured the festive spirit and showcased the Colsterworth "Wow factor," with every piece reflecting the children’s dedication to producing high-quality and thoughtful artwork.
We are absolutely delighted to share that Millie, a Year 6 pupil, was selected as the overall prize winner. Her outstanding design has been professionally printed and will be distributed to homes across the parish, spreading Christmas cheer far and wide. We also extend our congratulations to Penny from Year 4, whose creative and beautifully crafted design was chosen as the winner for her age category.
A huge well done to all the children who participated in this activity. Their hard work and creativity shone through, and every design was a testament to their imagination and artistic skills.
We are so proud of their achievements!
