Colsterworth have the 'WOW' Factor once again!
Thu 27 Feb 2025What an incredible day we had once again at the Colsterworth Festival of Performing Arts! We couldn't have predicted the pride and absolute joy we'd feel in walking away with four gold medals, four trophies and the Growler Shield for best overall performance.
As always, the children dedicated themselves to their performances, mastering words and actions, perfecting their recorder tones, and working together as a cohesive team to deliver stunning performances that left the adjudicator in awe.
Our Year 6 Jaguar Class kicked off the event, showcasing their bravery and musicality by singing both solo and in small groups. They arranged the piece themselves into three sections, building on their learning in music lessons, which added depth and complexity to their performance.
Next up, our Key Stage 2 children brought unparalleled enthusiasm. Their focus and concentration created a powerful presence in the beautiful surroundings of St John's Church, Grantham. The adjudicator praised them for "A fantastic display of storytelling and communication," commending their clear diction and dynamic range. This phenomenal performance earned them a gold medal, the Choral Cup and the Growler Shield for the best performance of the day.
Our newly formed recorder group followed, delivering excellent tone and control, which earned them a gold medal and a trophy.
Finally, our Key Stage 1 choir, although small in number, demonstrated great musicality and courage. Their teamwork resulted in a fantastic performance, placing them first and bringing home the cup.
Participating in the festival alongside other schools was a wonderful celebration of music and performance. It provided the children with a valuable opportunity to broaden their musical horizons and appreciate a diverse range of styles and genres.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Colsterworth Festival Committee for inviting us to take part, Mrs. Bidwell from the Lincolnshire Music Service for her invaluable support and Mrs. Dawes for her unwavering dedication, enthusiasm, and passion for nurturing the love of music within our school. Their efforts truly made this incredible day possible.

Collaborative Working as a UNICEF Rights Respecting Trust
Fri 31 Jan 2025Our hardworking UNICEF Equality Ambassadors once again joined Bourne Abbey and Bourne Elsea Park Academies to celebrate the work they have been doing with the Just Lincolnshire programme on The Equality Act. Led by an expert practitioner from the Just Lincolnshire charity working in conjunction with the YMCA, the ambassadors enjoyed a workshop, learning about the reasons behind The Equality Act along with the Protected Characteristics. Taking part in hands on activities to experience what is like to face challenges such as living with a disability, disadvantage or prejudice, the ambassadors were more able to understand the importance of why these characteristics should be protected by law, especially where Hate Crime is involved. The ambassadors joined in some invaluable discussions regarding the danger of stereotypes and how important respect and British Values are to ensure inclusion for everyone. Being part of a UNICEF Rights Respecting Trust, the ambassadors already have a strong connection and understanding of UNCRC Article 2 where ‘Every Child has equal rights regardless of their race, gender, ability and whatever they think or say or whatever their family’, an article central to the work of the Just Lincolnshire charity. As part of their role in school, the ambassadors will now deliver this important message through a presentation to their school followed by further group lessons from the online learning platform, Just Learn, where they will explore the Protected Characteristics further within the Eight Stories of Strength. They will also continue to feed their experiences into the Peer Mediator schemes and their work for the Unicef Convention on the Rights of the Child, both of which were praised by the representatives of the Just Lincolnshire programme. All of the Ambassadors involved gratefully received Just Lincs certificates, lanyards and pencils. Well done to the children and thanks to the Just Lincolnshire team for invaluable teaching. Sarah Croxall, UNICEF and Student Council Leader from Colsterworth said, ‘It is a privilege to be involved in this initiative. Our children know they are ‘Agents of Change’ and have the potential to make a positive difference in the world.’
