• Year 5 Step Back in Time to Victorian Britain

  On Tuesday, Year 5 stepped back in time and entered the world of Victorian Britain – and they absolutely looked the part! The children experienced what school life was like for Victorian pupils, from marching in exercise drills to practising handwriting with chalk and slate. They quickly realised that classrooms then were very different from the bright, welcoming spaces we are blessed with today.

  As part of the day, we also went on a fascinating tour of Colsterworth village to discover its rich history. The children learned where the stables, schools, pubs, and shops once stood and walked along the main road, imagining all the important people who had travelled that same path before them.

  This special experience not only helped us to understand the past, but also encouraged us to reflect on our Christian values of thankfulness – for the opportunities and resources we have today – and perseverance, shown by Victorian children who worked so hard in challenging conditions. It was a day of learning, fun, and gratitude!

  

• Leopard Class Take Off with Zog, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler!

  What an amazing start to the year! Leopard Class have launched into learning with an unforgettable masterclass led by the brilliant children’s author Julia Donaldson and the incredible illustrator Axel Scheffler.

  Our writing hook is Zog the Dragon, and hearing Julia bring her story to life was truly inspiring. We loved listening to her expressive reading and thinking about how we can use our own voices to make our writing shine. Axel’s illustrations motivated us to try our hardest as artists too – we became illustrators for the day, sketching Zog with care, creativity and imagination.

  Now, our challenge is to create our very own dragons and write powerful descriptions that will capture Julia Donaldson’s attention! We are determined to be the very best writers we can be, showing off our creativity, effort and enthusiasm.
