  • Bongo Bandits Steal The Show!

    Tue 16 Jul 2019

Our fabulous year 6 leavers went out with a flourish on Tuesday at their end of year production. Year 6 showed us that they really do have the WOW factor and can fly like the geese to produce an amazing performance. Their singing was brilliant, the solos tuneful and confident, lines crisp and clear and the comedy timed to perfection. With a guest appearance from Humphrey the Camel and the man who sells meat, Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits left us howling with laughter and raising the roof with our applause.

Well done year 6. A well-deserved congratulations on a fantastic end of year performance.

  • Year 2 Explore Rutland Water

    Thu 04 Jul 2019

The Year 2 children had a fabulous day of exploration and learning at the Birdwatching Centre at Rutland Water. We began by going pond dipping! The children used nets to catch different creatures such as water boatmen, great diving beetles and pond snails. After that, we went minibeast hunting in the woods. We used brushes to gently brush the bug into the container. Finally, we walked to a birdwatching hut and used binoculars to identify different types of birds. On our walk back to the centre we had a scavenging hut where we had to find a coloured stone, empty snail shell, feather, a twig, some bark and a nibbled leaf. We had a fantastic day learning all about animals and their habitats to enhance our Science learning back at school.

  • Year 5 STEM Day at Casterton College

    Mon 01 Jul 2019

Year 5 had an amazing and informative time when they visited Casterton College Rutland today for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths day (STEM). Their activities included exploring space inside an inflatable dome in the hall followed by a bridge building challenge in the D & T room. During the afternoon they combined engineering and maths by planning, costing and constructing a structure to hold a tennis ball off the table for 10 seconds. Finally into a science room for a chance to work with 'highly toxic' M & Ms in a series of chemistry experiments.

"It was a really fun and memorable day!"

"It was extraordinary in the dome. The pictures were huge!"

    "The science was really interesting!"

  • Perseverance and Adventure for Year 6 Leavers

    Mon 01 Jul 2019
Our Year 6 children enjoyed a fantastic day of activities at Walesby Activity Centre near Newark today, funded by their own hard work and fundraising efforts. The pupils faced challenges in the Cave Maze, overcame their fears on the indoor climbing wall, felt the wind rush through their hair on the Zip Line and braved the chill in the outdoor pool. An amazing experience creating wonderful memories for them to cherish as they move on to their new schools in a few weeks time.

  • Computing and E-safety Workshop

    Mon 24 Jun 2019

We held a parent/carer workshop this evening about Computing and E-Safety. It detailed everything we have done this year linked to E-Safety such as launching the mini e-cadets and e-cadets, celebrating Safer Internet Day, launching a whole school poster competition and having ‘One Day Creative’ in school leading interactive and fun sessions about e-safety.

First of all, we went through useful websites that parents/carers could go to if they needed any support about online safety. After that, the Key Stage One and Reception children shared an e-safety story with their grown up and Key Stage Two children shared some e-safety poetry together. This was brilliant to showcase to parents/carers that learning about how to stay safe online can be done in a fun and safe way.

After that, we looked at some aspects of Computing. We are really lucky at Colsterworth that we have forty-five iPads to enhance our learning in the curriculum. We looked at apps such as ScratchJr, A.L.E.X, LightBot, BeeBot and BlueBot. These are all programming apps and together we learnt how to do some basic coding and programming. The children were awesome at showing their grownups how to use them!

Finally, the children got to their show parent/carer their books! The children explained how they use the iPads to enhance their learning and parents/carers enjoyed scanning QR codes so they could watch their children live in action in lessons!
