• Year 2 Reading Workshop

  What a fantastic turn out to the Reading Workshops! Year 2 parents/carers were invited to come along to the workshop with their child to complete some reading activities together.

   

  The parents/carers heard all about Year 2 expectations, how to help at home with early readers, developing readers and advanced readers. Miss Bergmann introduced the ‘reading dogs’ which is a tool we use across school to support children with their comprehension skills. We began by comprehending a video called Excitable Edgar, a short piece of poetry and then a longer piece of text about the Isle of Coll, which is linked to our Geography work. Parents/carers and children completed these activities together. We also used a fluency chart to see how children’s pace, smoothness and tone were during reading their banded book. The children thoroughly enjoyed having a grown up in school to do some work together and are looking forward to completing some take care homework together. Each parent/carer received a personalised pack including a reading dogs bookmark, an up to date phonics and common exception word assessment, their first week’s homework and the accompanying rhymes with each RWI sound we learn.

  

• Sports Leaders of the Future

  Today our young sports leaders were joined by Tom from Inspire+ and took part in a fantastic training session to develop their skills as young ambassadors of sport within the school.

   

  James, Lillia, Henry and Millie from year 5 & 6 discussed their role within school and thought up new ways to inspire and encourage others to lead healthy, happy and active lifestyles.

   

  They showed off their team work and leadership qualities completing a range of activities and developing a new action plan ready to lead further sports and games at Colsterworth.

   

  Currently our sports leaders are building up active playtimes through a range of games lead daily by year 5 & 6 playground leaders.

  They are providing a great example for the rest of the school!

  

• The Most Amazing Journey for our School

  In October 2019 our wonderful school undertook a SIAMs Review led by Yvonne Shaw, a School Effectiveness Advisor for The Lincolnshire Diocesan Education Team. This was a ‘health check’ that supports the school’s readiness for a SIAMS inspection. The report is glowing and really celebrates the most amazing journey for Colsterworth CE Primary School since joining Abbey Academies Trust only last September.

   

  We are so very thrilled and proud of all three schools within our Trust who have all been part of this rapid improvement and exciting journey for Colsterworth. Well done and thank you to our wonderful children, staff, parents and carers, trustees and governors – all our Colsterworth school family, for embracing new opportunities.

• Our Golden Book Winners

• Pudsey Fun for Children In Need

  Our children have had an amazing day raising money for Children in Need today. Pudsey and Blush have been spotted in every classroom and the children have enjoyed learning obout why, when and how Children in Need was started.

   

  The whole school took part in the Big Morning Workout with Joe Wicks.

   

  Our older children in Lister had a very fun and informative day learning all about the origins and purposes of Children in Need.  Mrs Croxall set us a challenge to produce an article about an aspect of Children in Need and to present it in an original way.  We could use film, PowerPoint, Keynote, Clips, PicCollage, make a poster or create a fact sheet.  Everyone was impressed by our originality and knowledge! Head over the the Lister Class Page to check out what they have been up to.

   

   

  

• Remembering the Fallen

  At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month the pupils and staff at Colsterworth School fell silent to remember all those who have given their lives in war and conflict. We held an Act of Remembrance in the church and gave thanks to all the men and women who gave their lives so that we can live the lives we have today. 

   

  'They will grow not old as we who are left grow old.

  Age will not weary them nor the years condemn.

  At the going down of the sun and in the morning

  We will remember them.'

   

  Mrs Jordan and many of our pupils also took part in the Colsterworth Festival of Remembrance on Sunday 10th November laying a wreath on the memorial in the village.

   

  Children also created poppies which have been displayed in the church throughout the festival.

  

• Pizza Party at Kids' Club

  Tonight Kids' Club had a blast creating their own pizzas using oven bottom muffins and a selection of toppings. 

   

  Oliver said "The pizzas were amazing, they tasted truly splendid on my tongue. I hope we can make them again soon!"

   

  Fruit kebabs were also on the menu to ensure that all dietary requirements were catered for. 

   

  We are really enjoying our new snack options and activities and hope to introduce new things regularly to encourage more children to use the provision.

   

  

• Pottery Poppies at Kids' Club

  The children at Kids' Club created their own poppies this evening out of clay. Everybody enjoyed getting a bit messy. We also had a reflective discussion about who we remember and why the poppy is important.

• What an awesome week we've had!

  We have all returned this week ready and raring to go after our half term break. The children have really engaged with the idea of being an 'Agent of Change' and have come back with a renewed vision and enthusiasm to make a difference to themselves and others within our school, our community and in our world. 

   

  Nightingale class received a letter on the first day back. It was from a girl with a red chalk! They discovered this amazing picture book and decided on their own words for the story. 

   

  Year 5 learnt a new method for multiplying two digit numbers together and this afternoon Mrs Moore illuminated our world with some reminders about firework safety.
