Pupil voice is loud and clear at Colsterworth!
Mon 16 Sep 2024We marked our Democracy Day 2024, at Colsterworth Primary School, this week. The children had opportunity to vote at our polling station today. We started this important event with a collective worship all about the core British Value of Democracy. The children know the importance of having the right to have their voice heard. We take great pride at Abbey Academies in our democratic election process, which enables every child to vote for their chosen representatives who will form the incoming Council for the year ahead. There were also many other school roles to vote for on the day. The children throughout the week held hustings in their classes, to garner support for their manifestos.
The votes were counted on the day and with great excitement, the results of the elections were announced in a special celebration assembly. The successful candidates were awarded their badges.
Sarah Croxall, Student Council lead said, “Every year the children who want to stand for council, confidently put themselves forward. It is wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm for this important democratic process, which they take very seriously. It gives me great pride to see how respectful all the children are to see their democratic right put into practice and the rights of every child in school to have a voice is relevant. It is a skill that they will use in their future lives.”
We are excited to see what new ideas are going to be brought to our Student Council meetings this year!

'Vile Victorians' take over Colsterworth
Tue 10 Sep 2024This week, Panthers were transported to the time of the ‘Vile Victorians’ where they learned what a terrible place school was. Miss Taylor and Mrs Cornish took on the role of school mistresses and the class chanted to God, copied passages onto chalkboards and underwent hand cleanliness inspections. We quickly realised how few Rights they had compared to us today. Thankfully, the school mistresses couldn’t stay in character for too long and it was time to search for clues from Victorian past around Colsterworth. Drawing attention from many wowed members of the community, we identified the dead house, old taverns and the first school in the village. It really was a brilliant beginning to learning and we cannot wait to find out even more.
