  Wow! What an amazing day of fun we have had! Our Key Stage 2 children enjoyed a day of science experiments, sherbet and slime making with the incredible David from 'Sublime Science.'

   

  All of our children enjoyed getting sticky with our slime making workshops and discovered some amazing facts about the world of science. 

  

• London's Burning, Fetch the Engines!

  What a brilliant way to end our fantastic topic of ‘London’s Burning, Fetch the Engines!’ showcasing our class assembly to parents and carers. We re-told the story of the Great Fire through TV programmes. We started with The Apprentice where two contestants gave their business plans to Lord Sugar. This was based around how London was in 1666. Next, we tuned into The Great British Bake Off where Thomas Farriner accidentally left his oven alight! After that, the fire dancers in Britain’s Got Talent blew us away with their dancing skills. Simon Cowell said he loved it! There was an episode of The Chase where they did the starter questions all about The Great Fire of London. And finally, we finished with Grand Designs where Christopher Wren had made plans to re-build London with brick and stone. The children in Nightingale gave an incredible performance with acting, singing and narrating abilities. Well done!

  

• Our 3Rs Champion this week!

• You Came, You Saw, They Conquered!

  Fabulous Faraday lived up to their name with a celebration of all things Roman in their ‘Veni, Vidi, Vici’ class assembly. Using their fantastic acting, singing and costumes, the pupils in Year 4 and 5 were able to share all their exciting, cross-curricular learning on this topic with a delighted audience of parents, carers, grandparents, governors and Mrs Moore. Everyone agreed this class assembly had the Colsterworth WOW Factor!!!!

   

  

• Safer Internet Day

  WOW! What a brilliant day we have had celebrating Safer Internet Day across school. KS1 began with a Collective Worship all about an alien called Zap! The story was all about asking for permission to do things online and about the choices we can make about what personal information we give away about ourselves. KS2 discussed the idea of consent such as organisations asking for consent and sharing photos online. Our wonderful mini e-cadets and e-cadets participated in Collective Worships through collecting ideas, giving opinions and reading a prayer. In our classrooms we participated in different activities throughout the day. The children in Reception drew what they thought the internet looked like and Year One played ‘keep it safe or give it away’ linked to keeping personal information private. Year Two used their reading skills to answer questions about an e-safety story called ‘Penguinpig’ and thought about what Zap should do if he received another message asking to give his mobile phone number away. KS2 completed a survey and made a permission pledge about what they have learnt from Safer Internet Day. The key message from today is ‘our internet, our choice’ which we will remember and continue to think about when we use the internet.

  The prayer from Collective Worship:

  “Dear God, Thank you for the wonderful school environment that we are in. Thank you for all of the fun and exciting things we can do in the internet. Help us to be respectful and kind online. Help us to use it wisely – to broaden our minds, connect with friends and family and have fun, not to harm others. Amen”

• Swimarathon News

  This years Rotary Club Swim Marathon took place on Saturday 2^nd February and WOW what an event! This year we took along the biggest team from Colsterworth with 20 Children ranging from Y6-Y4 and of course Miss Rogers and myself!! It is always such a fun event and this year did not disappoint! All swimmers swam fantastically well, I was so impressed with our whole team, we really do have some super swimmers at Colsterworth! Together as a school team we swam over 400 lengths and raised over £300 for the Rotary club. I am already in training for next year!

• Rave reviews for Year 6 Blitzed Brits!

  Lister Class (Y6) showcased their fantastic knowledge and learning in their class assembly ‘Blitzed Brits’.  With amazing acting, singing costumes and characterisation, the pupils were able to share all of their cross-curricular learning on this topic which delighted the audience of parents, carers, governors and Mrs Moore.  This class assembly certainly had the Colsterworth WOW Factor and there are definitely a few talented individuals to look out for in the end of year production!

  We are now officially a UNICEF Rights Respecting School! Our school has recently achieved the Bronze Award: Rights Committed. UNICEF works with Schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and able to thrive. A big thank you to our UNICEF Ambassadors who are working on projects within school to embed UNICEF values in daily school life and help to give our children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.
