Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Well done to all of our Golden Book children this week.
On Thursday 23rd September we marked Democracy Day 2021 at Colsterworth Primary School. by voting at our polling station in the hall. We started this important event with a collective worship all about the core British Value of democracy. The children know the importance of everyone having the right to have their voice heard. We take great pride at Abbey Academies in our democratic election process, which enables every child to vote for their chosen representatives who will form the incoming Council for the year ahead.
Amid great excitement, the results of the elections were announced today in our celebration assembly. The successful candidates were awarded their certificates and badges.
Student council co-ordinator, Mrs Helliwell, said; “Every year the children who want to stand for council, confidently put forward their manifestos and take the democratic process very seriously. Every year, it gives me great pleasure to see how respectful all the children are and this year was no different. To see their democratic right put into practice and the rights of every child in school to have a voice is relevant; it is a life skill that they will use in their future.”
The Student Council plays an active role in decision-making at our school and we are excited to see what new ideas are going to be brought to our Council meetings this year!
Well done to all of our Golden Book children this week.
The year 2 and 3 children entered their classroom today and were greeted with an intriguing surprise. Anything and everything made from plastic had been removed. The plastic had gone on strike! This exciting learning ‘hook’ was to introduce the environmental dilemma of the pros and cons of plastic. The children had a fun packed morning using iPads to research facts, debating the positives and negatives of plastic and being agents of change by writing their own plastic pledge for the future. The children then used their designing skills to create an innovative plastic removal machine, which was inspired by the Ocean Clean up Device. The fantastic finish to this topic will be writing a persuasive letter to environmentalist including: Sir David Attenborough, Steve Backshall and Chris Packham explaining their plastic munching machines and ways to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic. This topic also links into the Eco-School topic of global citizenship and the children are most certainly demonstrating their power to make a positive change.
Every year we celebrate the life and works of author Roald Dahl. This year was no different. Each class took time out of their day to visit our beautifully decorated library and to share one of his book with their friends.
Congratulations to all of our Golden Book children this week.
Well what a week we have had!
It was lovely to welcome our children back into our wonderful school on Monday for the first day of our 2021-2022 school year.
Every single one came in with a happy, smiling face and it was such a joy to have them all here. Our new reception children took it all in their stride and had an amazing day getting to know their classroom and their teachers.
Today the Year 1 children launched their new term’s topic ‘Mirror, Mirror on the Wall’ with a fabulous Fairytale Day. Children came to school dressed as a huge array of characters from their favourite fairy tales.
Pretty Princesses, Jolly Giants and Crafty Creatures filled the Year 1 classroom for some fun-filled learning opportunities. The children enjoyed creating their own magic mirrors, building their own beanstalks and retelling tales throughout the day, as well as creating their own traditional tales. Louise Jordan, class teacher and Assistant Headteacher said ‘’It is always a wonderful start to a topic with the children fully immersed in this way. We have had such a magical time and it has already given us some amazing hooks to start our new term’s learning.’’
