• St George's Day Collective Worship

  In our KS2 assembly today we reflected upon the cultural and religious significance of St George's day, which was celebrated today.

  We began our story by hearing the song, 'When a Knight Won his Spurs'. We explored the meaning of the lyrics, in particular its reference to slaying 'dragons' and the characteristics of a knight. 

  Following this, we looked at St George and how he was reflected in the traditions of our country, for example by exploring the significance of his cross and how it is an integral part of the British flag.  

   

   

  We also explored where else the flag can be seen, such as at sporting events and different special occasions. 

  Furthermore, we read the legend of St George, who slayed the dragon, and looked at the symbolism found within the story. For example, how the dragon represents evil (bad things that happen) and how brave St George was for standing up to evil. We compared the legend to the truth we know about the real St George:

  •Saint George was a Roman soldier.

  •He was a Christian.

  •He was known for his bravery.

  •He protested against Rome's persecution of Christians.

  •He was imprisoned and tortured, but stayed true to his faith.

  •King Edward III made him the Patron Saint of England in 1350. 

   

  We also compared St George to other influential people throughout history who were brave and fought for the rights of others such as: Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. We were inspired by how they have tried to make our world a fairer place for all so that no one is treated differently because of their race, gender or religion. 

   

  Finally, we discussed the importance of being brave and how we need to push ourselves to fight our fears (linking to our Christian Values). Year 4 shared how they had fought their fears during their residential and year 6 shared how they were fighting their fears of SATs by being prepared so that they could achieve their potential.

   

  Well done children! You were very reflective British Citizens and know what characteristics you require in order to be truly successful. 

  

• Ready! Steady! COOK!

  Key Stage 2 have had a fantastic morning with Darren from Roots to Food. 

  Mrs Revie and Mrs Helliwell led the green and orange teams in a ready, steady, cook off! In just 15 minutes both teams managed to yet again produce some amazing food.

• Amazing Attendance

  We continue to work hard to improve attendance at Colsterworth School and with your continued support we know we can improve attendance further.  Congratulations and a big well done to Zachary (Y5) for winning the family pass to Twinlakes Park for his amazing attendance in Term 3&4.

   

  Well done to Lister who achieved the best class attendance of the term and received a £25 Amazon voucher to spend on resources for their classroom.

   

   

  

• A Fantastic Easter Experience

  Our Key Stage 2 children were lucky enough to be able to take part in the Easter Experience at Stoke Rochford Church yesterday which was organised by Reverend Neil and friends of the church. The children went along in three groups and took part in activities which helped them to understand the Story of Easter. 

  

• An Egg-cellent Easter Egg-travanganza!

  Today we celebrated Easter with a day full of egg-citing activities and egg-straordinary talents.

   

  The children started the day with the Easter bonnet parade through the hall, followed by egg rolling on the playground. many of our children took part in the egg decorating competition and we had some very imaginative and carefully created entries. The children's 'Take Care' attitude was evident in all of their efforts throughout the day.

   

  The day was finished off with our fantastic Easter bazaar which was organised and run by the PTFA and our very capable Year 6 children. 

  

• School Easter Service

  We enjoyed retelling the Story of Easter again during our Easter Service at the Church. This was a whole school approach with our Key Stage 1 children providing the dramatisation of the story while the older children told us the story. The children's singing, acting and reading once again showed us that they really do have the Colsterworth WOW factor.

• Emotion runs high with Lister's Christ's Passion

  Our Year 6 performed Christ's Passion with a maturity beyond their years. The emotion and and their respect for the Easter Story was evident in their faces and actions. They showed that they definitely have the Colsterworth WOW factor and fly together like the geese.

  

• Arts around the District - Creativity Galore!

  Our Key Stage 2 children enjoyed an afternoon of creativity on Monday with some visiting artists, poets and musicians from across the County. They had a fantastic time exploring their inner creativity to write songs and poetry which they then performed to parents and carers at the end of the day.
