  • Easter Service at St John the Baptist Church

    Tue 30 Mar 2021

Today was an exciting day for all of us as we made the short walk down to St John the Baptist Church in our bubbles for our annual Easter Service. It was lovely to be able to have our service in person with Reverend Neil as we have been unable to for so long due to the restrictions.

It was especially important, as for some of our pupils this was their first experience of a school church service and the Easter Story is such a valuable part of our Christian life.

  • 2B make Frightening Faces for their Fabulous Finale!

    Wed 24 Mar 2021

To round off our topic 2B used their DT skills to design, make and evaluate a product. During DT, we ensure we create something for a purpose. Ours was to create a frightening pitta face to scare off those scavenging seagulls from devouring Mr Grinling's lunch! The children loved making pittas from scratch, cutting vegetables and making their face using their plan.

Along with these fabulous creations we also have new winners for our reading raffle and some super 'take care' homework.

  • Mothering Sunday in the week

Thu 11 Mar 2021 Louise Jordan

This week Reverend Neil visited us in our bubbles to lead a special 'Mothering Sunday in the week' service. He talked to the children about why we celebrate Mothering Sunday and give thanks to those around us. Reverend Neil also provided bunches of daffodils for the children to give to their mothers or those special to them.

The children loved seeing Reverend Neil and hearing the important messages and there were also some very appreciative parents and carers at the end of the school day receiving their daffodils!

  • Where there’s a will, there’s a World Book Day way!

Thu 04 Mar 2021 Louise Jordan

The children of Colsterworth Primary always look forward to the fun and games of World Book Day, but this year we were all more excited than ever. There was no way we were going to let a COVID Lockdown ruin our fun. For the past few weeks, the teachers had been busily Zooming and Teaming, coming up with plans for the BEST WORLD BOOK DAY EVER! And they did not disappoint. Whether the children were completing the activities at home or in school, they loved getting stuck in to the story-based tasks and challenges. All round Colsterworth, children could be heard quoting their favourite characters; Harry Potters were chanting “Expelliarmus!”, wolves were growling, “I’ll huff and I’ll puff!”, Horrid Henrys were screaming, “It’s not FAIR!”, and Very Hungry Caterpillars were ever so quietly munching on leaves.

To make sure the children still felt like they were celebrating this magnificent day with their friends, they were encouraged to share their costumes, or those they had created with their potato buddies, on their remote learning platform, and these were then shared with their peers. The teachers were so impressed with the learning that occurred at home and said it was fantastic to see families coming together to celebrate an event that would usually take place solely in school.
