Hands-on Learning in Kitten Class
Wed 15 Oct 2025Our Kitten Class have had a truly wonderful week of hands-on learning! As part of their Welly Wednesday adventures, the children picked apples from our very own Newton’s Apple Tree, grown right here in the school grounds from a small sapling. On Thursday, they used their harvest to create delicious apple tarts in class — measuring, mixing, and baking with great care and excitement. This activity not only allowed the children to explore where food comes from but also celebrated a special piece of local heritage linked to Sir Isaac Newton himself. What a fantastic example of cultural capital in action, combining nature, history, and practical life skills — and what a delicious way to learn!

Our Artistic God-Given Talents!
Fri 10 Oct 2025Lots of children across the school have been busy using their Art Smart skills to create some stunning entries for the annual Willoughby Open Art Competition in Corby Glen. From our youngest artists to our oldest, creativity has been flowing through a wonderful variety of media — including painting, clay, pastels, and sketching.
There have been so many highlights! Tiger Class took inspiration from their Ancient Egypt topic to produce some amazing Egyptian-themed artwork, while Leopard Class drew on their knowledge of medieval castles to create striking mixed-media compositions. Our After-School Kids’ Club have been experimenting with printing techniques to design beautiful seasonal pictures, and during Golden Time, some eager artists have found inspiration in The Lost Word book to produce truly enchanting pieces.
Well done, Team Colsterworth — you have most definitely shown that you have the Art WOW Factor!

Harvest Donations for Grantham Foodbank
Thu 09 Oct 2025As part of our annual Harvest Festival celebrations, our school community came together to support the Grantham Foodbank with generous donations of food and essential items. Over the past few weeks, pupils, parents and staff have contributed a wide range of non-perishable goods, including tinned vegetables, pasta, rice, cereals, and toiletries. . It was a beautiful service full of respect and reverence, as we gave thanks for the abundance in our lives and reflected on the importance of helping others. Our Year 6 pupils led the service with beautiful readings, and the singing from all our children filled the church with warmth and joy. It was truly a moment that reflected our school’s spirit of togetherness and gratitude.
These donations will go directly to local families in need, helping to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry during the colder months.
Representatives from the Grantham Foodbank will collect the donations from the church. These contributions make a real difference in the lives of individuals and families facing difficult times. A heartfelt thank you to all families for your generous offerings — they will make a real difference to many lives within our community.
We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their compassion and community spirit. Thank you again to everyone who donated and helped make this year’s Harvest collection a success.

Year 5 Step Back in Time to Victorian Britain
Tue 09 Sep 2025On Tuesday, Year 5 stepped back in time and entered the world of Victorian Britain – and they absolutely looked the part! The children experienced what school life was like for Victorian pupils, from marching in exercise drills to practising handwriting with chalk and slate. They quickly realised that classrooms then were very different from the bright, welcoming spaces we are blessed with today.
As part of the day, we also went on a fascinating tour of Colsterworth village to discover its rich history. The children learned where the stables, schools, pubs, and shops once stood and walked along the main road, imagining all the important people who had travelled that same path before them.
This special experience not only helped us to understand the past, but also encouraged us to reflect on our Christian values of thankfulness – for the opportunities and resources we have today – and perseverance, shown by Victorian children who worked so hard in challenging conditions. It was a day of learning, fun, and gratitude!
