Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
It’s been a busy and active few days in Colsterworth school this week with a group of year 5 pupils taking to the roads to learn a range of cycling skills. While developing skills of communication, observation and positioning the pupils completed a range of manoeuvres and tasks while safely moving around the village. The children were so proud of their progress through the week and their achievement of a level 2 bike ability award at the end.
Our children came together on Tuesday morning for a wonderfully inclusive Collective Worship exploring the meaning of Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) and Lent.
This is an important time of year for Christians. it reminds them of when Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights without food. It was an important time and place for Jesus as he prepared for his work of healing and teaching. It was important that he was somewhere on his own, so that he could focus on God, with no distractions.
Lent is not only about giving things up. A different way of looking at it is to take something up for Lent. It may be a good time to 'turn over a new leaf' - a bit like the pancakes we flipped, we all have the chance to show a new side to us!
Dear God,
Thank you that during Lent we can think more about you and focus on you.
We pray that you will help us with the positive things we choose to do this Lent.
We have really missed our Golden Book worships over the last few weeks while we have been back in our bubbles. It was fantastic to be able to share our achievements with each other again.
A great big well done to all of our Golden Book children this week.
A big Colsterworth WOW to our superstar sports woman Eden who has once again amazed us all with her talent and succeeded in gaining a place in the under 11s Leicestershire Cricket Team. We’re so proud to hear about her sporting successes and can’t wait to watch her progress, what a shining inspiration our sports leader is!
Key stage 2 children at Colsterworth Primary School showed off their culinary skills and talents this week as they took part in a cookery workshop led by Roots to Food. Chicken Bhuna Masala was on the menu this year as the children practised peeling, chopping and frying techniques while working as a team to create a healthy family meal. The children were thrilled to taste their final dishes and were eager to take the recipes home to carry on the cooking fun.
We are proud to announce that Colsterworth Church of England Primary school has been awarded the Silver Rights Respecting School Award by UNICEF UK.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school. Silver is given to schools that make excellent progress towards embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos and curriculum
The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies and practice. A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Adviser, Martin Russell, said, “It was pleasing to see the school’s impressive commitment to putting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice in all aspects of school life. By actively learning about and understanding their rights, it is clear that the children at Colsterworth are becoming empowered as global citizens.”
Sarah Croxall, RRSA Lead added, “Since starting our Unicef journey, the difference in the children is incredible. They know that they can make a difference, how to make a difference and that they truly are ‘Agents of Change’.
Congratulations to all of our fabulous children this week.
Well done to all of our Golden Book children this week. An exceptional effort.
