There’s No Place Like Home – Katie Morag Enrichment Day

The story character Katie Morag travelled over the seas and across the ocean to arrive at Colsterworth School today where pupils in Year 1 and 2 enjoyed a ‘Katie Morag Day’, based on the popular children’s books by Mairi Hedderwick which are set on the fictional Isle of Struay in Scotland.

The children came dressed in Katie Morag-inspired costumes ready for their fun filled enrichment day. The stormy weather of November provided the perfect backdrop to ignite the children’s imaginations. Creative highlights of the day included: Scottish dancing, researching tartan textile  patterns and singing traditional Scottish songs. This cross-curricular day also included geography, computing and English opportunities. The children became weather presenters using Met Office data to plan and present an autumnal weather forecast, used bee-bots to navigate around the Isle of Struay and were author’s writing a ‘Katie Morag’ inspired adventure narrative.

We ended the day by having an extra special story time sharing a variety of Katie Morag stories, which was a perfect way to complete the day.
