Science Curriculum

Year 5

For their first Science lesson of the term, 5T dissected flowers to identify male and female parts. There was some tricky vocabulary to learn but the focus was impressive and lots of learning clearly took place.

Year 2/3

In 3G, the plastic had gone on strike!  Anything and everything made from plastic had been removed from the classroom. This exciting learning ‘hook’ was to introduce the environmental dilemma of the pros and cons of plastic. The children had a fun packed morning using i-pads to research facts, debating the positives and negatives of plastic and being agents of change by writing their own plastic pledge for the future.  The children then used their designing skills to create an innovative plastic removal machine, which was inspired by the Ocean Clean up Device.  The fantastic finish to this topic will be writing a persuasive letter to environmentalist including: Sir David Attenborough, Steve Backshall and Chris Packham explaining their plastic munching machines and ways to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic. This topic also links into the Eco-School topic of global citizenship and the children are most certainly demonstrating their power to make a positive change.
