The future continues to be Green for Colsterworth!

Colsterworth CE Primary School have been awarded with their second coveted Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. Since achieving their first Green Flag in July 2021 the children and staff have continued their Eco-Schools projects to make a difference to the environment which has seen them achieve the additional commendation of gaining Green Flag with Merit.

Pupil involvement has continued to be a key part of the journey, with children from each class being elected Eco Warriors.  Throughout the last two years the Eco Team have worked to be ‘Agents of Change’ by being involved in projects to improve Transport, Energy and Waste in and out of school.

Eco Schools commented that our ‘Eco-Committee has done a fantastic job of rallying peers, parents and staff members to the eco-cause through collective worship, class feedback and your striking and visually-engaging Eco-Board. Involvement and collaborations with a whole multitude of local organisations and initiatives demonstrates an outward-looking approach and stands out as a real strength.’

Louise Jordan (Head of School) said, “We are so proud of our ‘Agents of Change’. Obtaining another Green Flag award is something that the whole school and our surrounding community is proud of.  Every child has the knowledge that their actions can change their local environment, and the world, for the better. It has been a fantastic initiative for all involved, however it is by no means over, as the greater challenge is to maintain what we have achieved so far and look towards ways of improving even further.”

Mrs Abbey (Eco-School Coordinator) said “Being an Eco School is really important to our school community.  The children are so enthusiastic about all things ‘green’ and they have been empowered to lead change within our school and beyond.  The projects we have been involved in have helped our children to see their responsibility to the environment and how we can ‘change the world one step at a time’. We are looking forward to our ever-increasing Eco projects over the next year. We would like to say a massive thank you to our parents and carers for their continuous support with our projects and campaigns over the last two years.”

We are always grateful for support and advice from members of our community when developing our Eco School plans. If anyone feels that they can offer advice, support, equipment or practical help for a ‘one off’ project or on a longer term the children would welcome any enquiries by email on CSW.enquiries@abbeyacademies.co.uk
